I’m Jodi, CEO and creator of Grow Your Goals. I transitioned from being a full-time middle school math teacher to a successful business owner to an advocate for building a business designed for long-term growth – all while raising my young family. I was a few years in when I realized my big mistake and it resulted in a restart of my business.

When I began my business, I didn’t build a business designed for long-term growth.

I succeeded in creating a business that promoted me to boss and provided financially for my family but I wasn’t prepared for the shift my business would take just a few short years later.

I wanted to keep my freedom while making more, instead of working more. There are foundational steps to starting a business that every owner should take at the beginning to support their long-term goals in growing their business.

Many people out there will help you get started but it comes down to these simple yet important steps to keep you moving towards your goals. I’m here to help you set up your business for long-term growth and success so you and your business don’t miss a beat.

That’s me, Jodi!

If you know about the life of a teacher, you certainly don’t begin and end your day within 9-5. Not only are there late nights of planning/grading and after school events but also high stakes testing and daily student behaviors to navigate. I was fully invested in my job and stressed constantly!

Like many of you reading this, I dreamed of a life where I could work less, stress less, and spend more time on what mattered to me. After getting pregnant with my first child, I wanted to build a life that prioritized time with family and not working full time.

Unfortunately I let the emotions of feeling inadequate and overwhelemd take over and I pushed my dreams aside. My current employment was sufficient in providing a paycheck so I decided to make the best of my situation. However, when I became pregnant with my second child I knew I had to make my business work.

Move past fear and into action to build your own business.

Did I know what I was doing? No!

Did I stress about how we were going to make ends meet if this didn’t work out? Yes!

I was not working less and I definetly wasn’t strolling down the beach.

My free time went into utilizing my skills and talents to reach clients and begin working. I actually filed for an LLC one week after my second son was born. My maternity leave to allowed me to build my services and gain experience.

Little did I know, I was not building a business designed for long term growth.
Celebrating the official start of my business!

As maternity leave ended, I found myself working two professions. I worked past bedtime, through the weekends, during my work breaks, and every chance I had. Building a business requires work and I refused to be a statistic of a failed business. Once summer hit, I left my teaching job and breathed a huge sigh of relief.

During this journey, I have found where my time matters. I still work hard but I get to spend more time with family, sitting outside to enjoy simple pleasures like drinking my HOT cup of coffee, and weekends without catching up on work.

It was here that I decided I wanted more but I didn’t want to add more work to my schedule – don’t we all? I only dreamed of working from home on my own time so I could quit my full time job. I was so focused on getting out I wasn’t aware that eventually I would want to move up. My business was not designed for long-term growth.

I had to restart my business with key components in place.

There are many resources out there that walk you through starting a business quickly so you can start making money. What I failed to read were the foundational steps I would want in my business so I could work less and still make money later down the road.

How do you make more money by working less? If I wanted to take a vacation, road trip, or conference weekend, who was going to get the job done and pay me? What did this mean for vacations? At this point in my business, I would have to raise my rates or work more hours. Now, let me tell you something important.

There are only 24 hours in a day and people will only pay a certain amount for your products/services.

Your resources are limited.

This is where your business needs to be able to grow. If you have the foundation in place, this is a natural progression. That’s why my passion is making sure you build a business designed for long-term growth.

Dreaming of the life you want is just the beginning. Taking actionable steps to start your business with the potential to grow your goals – professionally and personally – is the key to a successful and long-term business.

You probably don’t envision working 40-50 hour weeks. You’re going to want systems in place to scale your business and team. Follow my journey and discover the necessary mindsets to build your business designed for long-term growth.
